Tynia, like most R&B and pop singers, began singing at her neighborhood church. Her talent for singing and writing lyrics earned her admittance to the prestigious Music and Arts High School of New York City which led her to become a finalist at Amateur Night at the world-famous Apollo Theatre.
Not long after her performance, Canada came to the attention of super-producer Teddy Riley. He produced her first solo appearance at the famed New York City Latin Quarter. Since then, she has been a popular favorite of local promoters. Tynia Canada is a "Highly Skilled and Accomplished Entertainer".
As she moved forward on her journey to success, Canada was a New York based session singer, and the original member of R&B group SWV (Sisters With Voices). She went on to perform and record with some of the world’s great musical talents such as:
Legendary vibraphonist, Roy Ayers, quickly signed her through a referral by jazz-funk piano, singer, songwriter Don Blackman, which led her to perform and tour for many years. Her lead vocals on the track “Naste” (RCA Records) and the remix with rap artist Guru hit the Billboard charts.
Roy Ayers “Wake Up” Album, Tynia’s lead vocals can be heard on the tracks, "Sweet Talk", "Baby Set Me Free", "Spirit of Dodo", and "You’ve Got the Power". Most recently, they performed “Sweet Talk” for the the first time live at Blues Alley Jazz club in Washington, DC and left the audience stunned!
Canada has starred in the "New York Undercover" television series; an appearance in the movie “City Hall” starring Al Pacino; performed at Londel’s, Blue Note Jazz Club, Birdland; a host of other New York City nightclubs, and abroad.
Canada was an active member of Bishop Eric McDaniel’s Pentecostal Workshop Choir of the Bronx, NY who produced gospel artist Hezekiah Walker, and appeared on the Bobby Jones Gospel Show.
A multi-talented artist, Tynia’s flair for dancing can be witnessed in the Grammy-nominated balladeer Oran “Juice” Jones (The Rain) video for which she choreographed. Her talent is unending!

Tynia’s voice is truly music to the ears. She has appeared on several radio and television interviews. She is sure to wow you with her repertoire which includes contemporary tunes with influences from gospel, pop and opera.
A graduate of Adelphi University (Long Island, NY), Tynia holds a dual degree in Music Education and Communications. When she is not performing, she dedicates her time to her non-profit organization “Inspirational Spirit of the Phoenix, Inc.” which was mentioned in several publications including Ebony Magazine.
She is the owner of “Aunt Katherine’s Kitchen, LLC” (Gourmet Pound Cakes and Vegan baked goods). “Her Sweet Potato Pound cake is addictive” says author & journalist Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds.
Currently, Tynia promotes her gospel single “Step Aside”, dedicated to her producer the late Washingtonian Al Johnson, formerly of the Unifics .
